I don't understand what the devs wanted you to feel. The game's ending and so called plot twist is non-existent, which is actually the only thing I'll remember it for. I kept giving her non-flirty answers throughout. I just wasn't interested in that sort of thing. Indeed this is what some players wrote on the Firewatch subreddit, so I guess it worked. But it is clear from the first moment that the game assumes you're gonna want a relationship with Delilah, or at least get closer to her. The realistic voice-overs from the game's two main characters also helps immensely. There's underlying tension almost all the time, and that is what drives the game forward. The plot itself works as long as there is suspense, which is actually for most of the game. Because the passable terrain is so unintuitive and hard to read, having the map up almost all the time is mandatory, and it's tedious having to close it down just in order to be able to run. There are places in the forest that are blocked that literally look easier to get past than some of the rock climbs the player actually can do elsewhere on the map.Īnd the map itself? You need to have it up pretty often, and while you do, running is disabled. I understand it's not that type of freedom granting game, but please make it more visually intuitive why you can't pass a certain area. The first thing that stands out as frustrating is the game's invisible borders across the map. It's a short enough game, and I knew it was, so I stuck through it even though I can't say I was really enjoying it. I got this off game pass on Xbox last week and finished it pretty quickly. If I had to sum this game up in one word it would be: Pretentious. Please use flair to display what games you’re currently playing, not a punch line, username, tag, URL, or signature.
